Luxury Iron Beds for Kids & Teens, Part 1

Posted on

Iron beds have quite a history. As far back as 550 BC, Chinese craftsmen made cast iron pieces. Iron beds became popular throughout the U.S. during the 1800s, as skilled ironworkers at foundries across the country melted raw iron and poured it by hand into molds. Using this labor-intensive approach, forming each bed would take several days. While those unique hand-forged designs cannot be completely replicated by modern methods, our Virginia Ironworks collection comes pretty close. With the same appeal as the original hand-forged iron beds, this new generation of iron beds can complement any style décor and mesh well with any other bedroom furniture pieces. Most Virginia Ironworks designs are suitable for both girls and boys.

Virginia Ironworks Beds: Characteristics

All the Virginia Ironworks beds we carry are made in the USA by skilled artisans. With a nod to historic craftsmanship, each bed part is forged and carefully shaped, and decorative castings are still hand-poured. Each headboard and footboard is a single high-quality piece, and most can be purchased in your choice of Twin, Full, Queen, or King size. (Upon request, XL Twin size can be made available, along with custom headboard and footboard heights.)

You can purchase a frame with a headboard and a footboard or purchase a headboard on its own; rollout or pop-up trundle units can be purchased with most models, ranging from traditional designs to some with an original contemporary flair. Bed frames offer superior mattress support and stability. Each bed can be finished in your choice of over 30 standard and designer finishes, with three hammered metal options available as well as two-tone possibilities on some styles. Whatever finish you choose, it will be hand-applied in multiple steps and then baked on to provide a rich, time-honored appeal along with time-tested durability.

Virginia Ironworks Beds with Upholstery

Several Virginia Ironworks beds we carry include upholstered portions. Like the finish on the metal, the fabric choice is subject to personalization. Virginia Ironworks offers an impressive selection of 16 fabrics as well as 4 leathers. For those models that include nail head accents, two choices are available. Several designs that incorporate upholstered panels are listed here:

Caraway Iron Bed: This headboard offers an elegantly curved top and straight sides surrounding the upholstered panel that's finished off with nail head accents.

Mohonk Iron Bed: In classic iron bed style, this bed's ends have radiused corners and upholstered panels. The geometric design combines traditional design with modern lines.

Gatsby Iron Bed: Featuring a linear iron frame, this retro design includes a particularly tall, upholstered bed frame especially designed for comfort while reading in bed.

Lobelia Iron Bed: This no-nonsense design incorporates clean, squared-off iron framing around rectangular upholstered panels.
